Our children's book, "The Magical Closet", is about a boy who goes on an adventure in a new and magical world in his closet. In this new world called Jello-O Town, he meets a new friend, Wiggles. Wiggles isn't identified as a boy or girl, so the reader will have to determine the sex through their imagination. Wiggles is an androgynous, because is does not represent either gender. In the story, this creature seems to be like a loving mother, but at the same time, takes upon a role of manly friend. It is pink and purple, so there really is no identifying. Michael is male and has an extra-ordinary inagination. He accepts Wiggles as a friend regardless of it's sex. Also, we decide to make the ruler of Jell-O Town. Queen Sweets, female. Although we really never get to meet Queen Sweets in depth, we wanted to involve her in this story by giving her the role we did. We thought it would be a good change to make the ruler a female. In most children's books, the ruler is usually a male. Another character we added was the jester, who is male. Although we really never get to meet him either, we assume he's androgynous because he performs a dance and throws a party for Michael, Wiggles, and Queen Sweets. Many other characters are unidentified because we want the young kids to use their imagination while reading our tale.
